Five-for-5 Initiative Kickoff
September 29, 2009
6:15 PM – 7 PM
Ypsilanti Senior Center, Recreation Park
1015 N. Congress St.

Together we can fight to protect public transit — a necessary lifeline for many, a service that benefits everyone who lives or works in Ypsilanti, a means to a more walkable and sustainable community, and a key component to the success of the Detroit-to-Ann Arbor commuter rail project.

We must maintain public transit at its current levels both now and for the future!

AY PAC’s “Five-for-5” initiative asks you to do one or more of the following:

• Take 5 minutes to email city council members and let them know you don’t approve of voting on such an important issue with no public notice or opportunity for community input!
• Spread the word to 5 friends/neighbors about the importance of public transit and how city council must not gamble with it
• Contribute $5 (or more) to AY PAC. Help us fight to protect public transit and insure that the public will be informed when decisions regarding transit and other major issues are to be made.

Join us on Tuesday, September 29 for the “Five-for-5” event in Ypsilanti to show support. Add your name to our database here.

We must resist cuts that threaten the accessibility, convenience and reliability of public transit. If we don’t act now, we will have to fight for public transit again and again. Let’s solve this problem together for the long term benefit of all.

Send email…Talk to friends/colleagues…Give to support our efforts.

Your Voice is Needed!

With no public notice and no opportunity for public input — at a special city council session scheduled immediately following a holiday weekend — your city council voted overwhelmingly to drastically cut public transit.

Not only were you denied a voice in the matter – they made the wrong decision!

Unless their decision is reversed, their proposed cuts eliminate Route #5 and reducing service on Routes #10 and #11. Imagine how much these will negatively impact the daily lives of Ypsilanti residents, including seniors, lower-income families and those with physical disabilities – not to mention the setback to efforts in making Ypsilanti a walkable and more sustainable community.

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE on Tuesday, Sept 22!

Come to the City Council meeting this Tuesday, September 22 at 7 p.m. (at Ypsilanti City Hall, 1 South Huron Street in Downtown Ypsilanti.) Sign up for the public speaking opportunities, and tell your elected public officials:

  • A resolution this important, that affects so many of our neighbors should not be decided at a last-minute special meeting with no public notice.
  • City Council needs to go back to the budget, find the money for public transit, and restore the funding necessary to maintain public transit at its current levels.
  • Citizens were assured more than two years ago that public transit was not at risk. We expect our elected officials to keep their promises.
  • City Council must maintain public transit at current service levels, while working harder to develop a more sustainable funding solution.

kyr-bus0With your help, we can convince City Council to restore the funding necessary to “Keep Ypsi Rollin’ ” by maintaining convenient, affordable and reliable public transit as a valuable community resource for all Ypsilanti residents.

  • We Deserve Better

What does Advance Ypsilanti PAC stand for? You might as well ask “what do we deserve as citizens?”

We deserve leaders with vision, who are willing and able to work within the process, who respect the work of others and fight hard for their goals and constituents.

We deserve a city with a sound fiscal strategy, clearly laid out and open for all to see, one that respects the basic needs of all citizens and lays groundwork for the future.

We deserve a process that is open, healthy and honest.

We deserve respect and support for the long term vision of our city, and the work of the many citizens who have contributed to that vision.

We deserve candidates who are open about their vision, who work hard to accomplish what they offered to their voters during campaigns.

AY PAC is an independent Political Action Committee. We work to help Ypsilanti get and keep the best city leadership possible. This includes holding all elected officials accountable to their statements and actions as well as supporting specific candidates and issues on the ballot. In concert with our commitment to openness, we will post our stances on issues and candidates here for all to read. You will never wonder who generated what statement, or who we support, or why. We look forward to helping Ypsilanti get and stay on a strong path heading into a vibrant future! Thank you for reading.

  • Transparency on Our Part
